Mexico Update 1 – Monday

July 7th, 2010 by Jon (admin)

I just wanted to take a moment’s break to let you know that we made it to Mexico safe and sound!  Things are going very well after our first day here:

  • Our team has really come together, and many first-timers already look like they’ve been at this a long time!
  • The weather has been VERY cooperative… we had clouds and some rain today, which kept things cool and didn’t pose any real problems with the building process.
  • We have a great worksite – it makes a big difference when you have a bathroom, a place to stand out of the sun/rain, and running water.
  • Our family is sweet and very helpful.  Their names are Victor and Martha, and they’re around 55-60 years old, with five grown children and a few grandchildren.  They have recently moved to Piedras from elsewhere in Mexico, and have been living in Martha’s brother’s house with his family.  They’re working hard alongside us, and are excited about their new home!
A few things to be in prayer for:
  • As usual, the health and safety of the workers, including our team, the family, and our CPC staff helpers, Greg, Mario and Juan.
  • The rain has been bad in this part of Mexico, and the Rio Grande is at HIGH flood stage.  Pray that the city will stay safe and the flood waters will recede!
  • Pray for our relationship with Martha and Victor, that we’d be able to get to know them and share God’s love with our words and actions, as well as with our hands.
Thank you all, and we’ll send more soon!
