Mexico Update 1 – Monday

I just wanted to take a moment’s break to let you know that we made it to Mexico safe and sound! Things are going very well after our first day here:

Our team has really come together, and many first-timers already look like they’ve been at this a long time!
The weather has been VERY cooperative… we had clouds and some rain today, which kept things cool and didn’t pose any real problems with the building process.
We have a great worksite – it makes a big difference when you have a bathroom, a place to stand out of the sun/rain, and running water.
Our family is sweet and very helpful. Their names are Victor and Martha, and they’re around 55-60 years old, with five grown children and a few grandchildren. They have recently moved to Piedras from elsewhere in Mexico, and have been living in Martha’s brother’s house with his family. They’re working hard alongside us, and are excited about their new home!

A few things to be in prayer for:

As usual, the health and safety of the workers, including our team, the family, and our CPC staff helpers, Greg, Mario and Juan.
The rain has been bad in this part of Mexico, and the Rio Grande is at HIGH flood stage. Pray that the city will stay safe and the flood waters will recede!
Pray for our relationship with Martha and Victor, that we’d be able to get to know them and share God’s love with our words and actions, as well as with our hands.

VBS Day 5 Slideshow

We had an awesome week at Bible School this year, with nearly 100 children and volunteers enrolled through the week! Our offering for SweetSleep has raised $325 so far – that’s two beds, and on the way to our third!

Here’s the slideshow for the final day. Remember that on Sunday morning during worship, the kids will show us what they’ve learned this week. Come join us at 11:00!

By the way, some of you have asked for more information about SweetSleep, the organization that will benefit from our 2010 VBS offering. You can find out more about SweetSleep at their website, www.sweetsleep.org. We’ve chosen Haiti as our country to sponsor, and we’ve set a high goal – beds for three orphans at $150 each… that’s $450!! Can you help us reach our goal?

Below you can download the 2009 Advent Devotional Guide in PDF format. There are two versions, and both are made to be printed on standard letter-sized paper:

The BOOKLET version is arranged in “booklet” format – that is, the pages are made to be printed front to back, then placed together and folded to form a booklet. Please note that since this file is meant to be printed as a booklet, the pages will be out of the normal order.
The FULL PAGE version prints out the guide with the pages in normal order, on letter-sized paper.

Hanging of the Green!

Don’t forget our annual Hanging of the Green event will be held tonight (Monday, Nov. 30). We’ll gather at 6:00 for dinner and a fun time of decorating the church together “family-style.” We’ll also take a few minutes to talk about the reasons we decorate, and what the different decorations represent.
